5 Things That Will Make Your Breakup Hurt So Much Less

Heartbreak is hard. These tips will soften the blow and help get you through.

  1. Spend time with your pals!

Go to the cinema, hang out together at home, in the park. It’s good for your mind, body and soul.

  1. Keep active.

A walk instead of a bus ride, the stairs instead of the lift. Or, if you’re feeling ambitious, this yoga video. When we exercise it releases happy endorphins, the happy hormones you need after any break up.

  1. Talk to people about how you feel.

You don’t have to face it alone. Talking about your emotions can be tough, but it can help.

  1. There are better ways of dealing with it than drinking.

It’s tempting to drink more as a way of hiding how you feel, but alcohol is a depressant, so will actually make you feel worse.

  1. Have a routine.

How much sleep you have significantly affects your mood. Sticking to a regular time to go to sleep can help.

If it’s still getting you down, don’t hesitate to talk to your GP or call NHS 111.

Always talk to someone about how you’re feeling, someone you trust or a helpline, such as Samaritans on 08457 90 90 90, for confidential, non-judgmental emotional support. Or ChildLine 0800 1111 to get help and advice about a wide range of issues, talk to a counsellor online, send ChildLine an email or post on their message boards.
