Eating disorder online support groups

About this tool

Beat, an eating disorder charity, run a range of different online support groups for those with eating disorders. You don’t have to have a formal diagnosis of an eating disorder to use any of the groups.

The groups are moderated by a Beat member of staff to ensure the safety of all of its users. This means that any content which includes personal information, pro-eating disorder content, or other harmful content such as content which encourages self-harm or suicide, will be removed. Safeguarding protocols will be followed and information will be passed on to the police or social services where it is felt an individual is at risk of harm.

All content that is shared in the online support groups is moderated in line with Beat’s online services guidelines.

How it works

Beat run a number of eating disorder online support groups for those with eating disorders. You don’t have to have a formal diagnosis of an eating disorder to use any of the groups. They offer a safe, online space for people to share concerns and advice on how they are coping.

Eating disorders thrive in isolation, so it is important to stay connected and support each other through this.

These groups include:

Dove (over 25s support)

Dove is an online chat group for anyone with an eating disorder aged 25 and over. The Dove chat room runs from 6.45 pm – 7.45 pm on Thursdays.

The Nest (General Support Group)

A support group for anyone with an eating disorder, running daily from 8pm. Unlike our other online groups, The Nest is open daily from 8.00 pm – 9.00pm.

Kingfisher (Bulimia Support Group)

A support group for anyone who has or thinks they may have bulimia. The Kingfisher bulimia support groups run on Wednesday from 6.45 pm to 7.45pm.

Nightingale (BED Support Group)

A support group for anyone who has or thinks they may have binge eating disorder. The Nightingale binge eating disorder support group runs on Friday from 6.45 pm to 7.45 pm.

Swan (Anorexia Support Group)

A support group for anyone who has or thinks they may have anorexia. The Swan anorexia support group runs on Monday from 6.45 pm to 7.45 pm.

Aviary (Carers’ Support Group)

A support group for anyone supporting someone else with an eating disorder. The Aviary runs on Sunday from 6.45pm to 7.45 pm.

Osprey (Men’s Support Group)

A support group for those identifying as men with an eating disorder. The Osprey Men’s Group chat room is open from 6.45 pm – 7.45 pm on Tuesdays.
