Lumi Nova
About this tool
Lumi Nova is a digital intervention for children aged 7-12 years facing difficulties with fears, worries and anxiety. This includes:
- Phobias e.g. such as being afraid of spiders, heights, being near dogs, or the dark.
- Social anxiety e.g. feeling worried about making new friends, or going to social events.
- Separation anxiety e.g. being unable to sleep alone, worried about being away from parents, or going to school.
It has been recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as one of the ‘front line treatment options’ to treat anxiety and low mood in children and young people.
How it works
Lumi Nova is based on psychoeducation and exposure therapy, which research shows is an effective component of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Young people start by setting goals and then working their way through gradual steps to break their worries down. This involves them learning that they can do it and building their confidence.
It is available on Android and iOS, and is here for children who:
- Do not meet the clinical threshold for CAMHS.
- Have been referred to CAMHS but are waiting for assessment or treatment.
- Aren’t engaging with other mental health services.
- Have been discharged from CAMHS within the last year.
Please note: Lumi Nova is not designed to help young people in crisis without supervision. To find out more about accessing Lumi Nova, please email hello@bfb-labs.com.
Cost
Lumi Nova is free for families to download, however, access must be provided by an authorised practitioner (health, social care or education) whose organisation has adopted Lumi Nova.
